Well....this is what started this blog.....my closet. When my wife, Maren, jokingly suggested that I create an Instagram page with just one picture of my closet, I laughed it off. But here I am, writing a blog about it! It all started with my mild obsession (okay, maybe not so mild) with organization and aesthetics. My closet was already in good shape thanks to the previous owner's white closet system, but I wanted something that better reflected my personal style—something akin to the J.Crew Men’s Shop or Todd Snyder’s store in NYC.

The Power of Paint: Choosing the Perfect Shade

I knew I wanted to paint my closet a dark blue, but not just any navy. I wanted depth, character, and richness—something that made the space feel both sophisticated and stylish. After some research, I landed on Inkwell by Sherwin Williams, and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. The shade is complex, bold, and just perfect. Yes, I did leave the bottom unpainted (which Maren loves to tease me about), but that’s only because we plan to replace the carpet with tile or upgraded flooring, and I’ll finish the painting once that’s done.

Designing a Space You Love

Whether it’s a closet, garage, or office, the key to making a space feel personal and inviting is variety. Here’s what I incorporated to achieve that balance:

  • Wood Elements – Wooden valet trays add warmth and contrast.

  • Diecast Model Cars & Motorcycles – A unique way to showcase personality.

  • Books – These are non-negotiable! Books add character and depth to any space.

  • Accessories I Love – My collection of boots, jeans, sneakers, watches, and hats all have a dedicated place.

The Before & After: A Dramatic Transformation

The difference a single coat of paint can make is truly incredible. Check out the before-and-after photos to see how a simple change transformed my closet into a stylish, functional space.

Final Thoughts

If you’re considering a closet makeover, my biggest tip is to fill it with things that bring you joy while maintaining a sense of order. And don’t underestimate the power of a well-chosen paint color—it can completely change the vibe of your space.
